Nutrition Week Celebration in Makwanpur District by SPARSH Team

  • The world is trying for five and Nepal is still struggling for having four meals a day. To mark the National Nutrition Week, 2016, Nepal Public Health Foundation, SPARSH-M project celebrated National Nutrition Week starting from 1st September 2016 in its five working VDCs of Makwanpur district. A Nutritional exhibition was conducted in Schools and Health post within these seven days in coordination with District Public Health Office, Makwanpur with the main objective of promoting locally available foods and balanced diet. IEC materials of balanced diet were also distributed. Locally available foods were demonstrated and their nutrition value were explained by the Social Mobilizers in their respective VDC. “Four meals a day” (Harek Baar Khana Char) was promoted among the participants.

    The participants were mostly students and patients who visited the health posts. On the last day of the Nutrition Week i.e. 7th September 2016, Mr. Bhim Sagar Guragain, Public Health Inspector (PHI), DPHO Makwanpur, Ms. Bimu Sharma, District Program Coordinator SPARSH-M and MEL Officer Mr. Prayas Gautam visited exhibition conducted in Rakshirang Health Post, Makwanpur. The willingness of participants to know about nutrition during the program made it a successful one.
