Knowledge to Action: Assessing the Translation of Dengue Research into Policy and Practices in Nepal

This project focuses on understanding how existing research on Dengue fever in Nepal is actually used in health policies and public health practice. Although many studies have generated evidence about dengue transmission, risk factors, and control strategies, much of this knowledge has not been effectively translated into decision-making, creating a gap between research and real-world implementation. The project therefore aims to assess how dengue-related research produced between 2014 and 2024 has influenced national and local policies, strategies, and control programs in Nepal. To do this, the study will combine several activities: reviewing existing scientific and grey literature on dengue, analyzing health policies and guidelines, conducting case studies in municipalities that frequently experience dengue outbreaks, interviewing key stakeholders such as policymakers, health officials, researchers, and NGOs, and analyzing government surveillance and climate data to identify high-risk areas through predictive modeling. By integrating these findings, the project will identify barriers that prevent research from informing policy and will work with stakeholders to develop strategies that strengthen the link between research, policy, and public health practice in dengue prevention and control in Nepal.
