Launching of Mind Brain Health & Policy Pathways For Nepal

A significant milestone for mind-brain health in Nepal!
On 12 June 2026, the Nepal Public Health Foundation (NPHF), in partnership with the Centre for Global Epilepsy at the University of Oxford, launched the Centre for Global Mind-Brain Health, Nepal—a long-term collaborative platform dedicated to advancing research, policy, capacity strengthening, and multisectoral action for neurological conditions, mental health conditions, and related comorbidities.
The inauguration was chaired by Dr. Shrikrishna Giri, Acting Chair of NPHF, with Hon’ble Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise, Advisor to the Rt. Hon’ble President of Nepal, serving as Chief Guest. The event featured a keynote address by Prof. Arjune Sen, Professor of Global Epilepsy at the University of Oxford and Founding Director of the Centre for Global Epilepsy, while welcome remarks were delivered by Dr. Mahesh Kumar Maskey, Founding Chair and Executive Chief of NPHF.
Distinguished guest speakers included Prof. Jane Hirst (Imperial College London and University of Oxford), Prof. Manjari Tripathi (AIIMS, New Delhi), Prof. Pushpa Prasad Sharma (KIST Medical College), Dr. Basant Pant (Annapurna Neurological Institute & Allied Sciences and Nepal Epilepsy Society), and Dr. Hiroshi Azuma (WHO Nepal).
The event was further honored by the presence of Dr. Anuj Bhattachan, Acting Director General of the Department of Health Services, and Dr. Bikash Devkota, Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, as Guests of Honor.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Dipendra Raman Singh, Former Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population and Former Director General of the Department of Health Services.
Together, the Centre for Global Mind-Brain Health, Nepal marks an important step toward building a stronger, more coordinated, and sustainable response to mind-brain health challenges in Nepal.
